Enclosures or Hard Drives

This document provides information for introducing enclosures or hard drives into your

PowerVault 660F 224F storage system

NOTICE The PowerVault 660F must be powered on before introducing enclosures or hard

drives to your PowerVault 660F 224F storage system Data and configuration information loss

occurs when you introduce enclosures or drives from a different array to your PowerVault

660F 224F system while the PowerVault 660F is powered off

Before you introduce additional enclosures or hard drives to your PowerVault 660F 224F

storage system

Ensure that the PowerVault 660F is powered ON before attaching a PowerVault 224F

enclosure

Ensure that the PowerVault 660F is powered ON before adding or replacing any hard

drives

NOTE You can relocate hard drives within the same enclosure whether the enclosure is

powered on or off This procedure is known as drive roaming See your Installation and

Troubleshooting Guide for more information

Changing the Default

Administrator Password for Dell

PowerVault 735N NAS Appliances

This document describes how to change the Microsoft Windows default administrator password

for your PowerVault 735N network attached storage NAS appliance

Default Administrator Account Information

The default administrator password for your PowerVault system in its original configuration is

powervault

NOTICE For improved system security Dell recommends that you change the

administrator password after completing the initial configuration of your system

Changing the Administrator Password

Your system in its original configuration has a set of default accounts Only the administrator account

has administrative privileges By default the administrator account is set to use the user name

administrator with the password powervault

You must enter this administrator account information when you connect to the PowerVault NAS

Manager in order to have administrator privileges Leave the Domain field blank unless you are

logging on using a domain administrator account To log on as a domain administrator enter the

domain administrator user name password and domain

NOTE If an administrator adds a domain account to the local administrators group the domain user

may access and administer the system However the administrator cannot use the Change

Administrator Password page to change the domain account password This page can only be used

to change the local administrator s account password

NOTICE Any information you send from the NAS Manager can be viewed by others on the

network To prevent others from seeing your information use the method explained in

Using Terminal Service Advanced Client to Send Encrypted Password Commands found

later in this document to change the administrator password

To change the administrator password for the system perform the following steps

1 Connect to the PowerVault NAS Manager from a supported Web browser and enter the

following in the browser address line

http systemname 1278

where systemname is Dellservice tag number The line must appear in a format similar

to this

http Dell1234567 1278

You also can enter

http system ipaddress 1278

See the System Administrator s Guide for a list of supported Web browsers

2 On the primary menu bar click Network Setup

3 On the Network Setup page click Change Administrator Password

4 Type the current administrator password in the Current password text box

5 Type the new administrator password in the New password text box

NOTE The new administrator password must conform to any password complexity rules in effect

for the domain to which the appliance belongs

6 Type the new administrator password again in the Confirm new password text box

7 Click OK

Using Terminal Service Advanced Client to Send Encrypted

Password Commands

NOTE This procedure works only on a Windows client because the Terminal Service Advanced

Client only works on Windows operating systems

This method sends encrypted text across the network to prevent others from seeing your

administrator password

1 Connect to the PowerVault NAS Manager from a supported Web browser using the information

in step 1 of the previous procedure

2 On the primary menu bar click Maintenance

Configuring Integrated SCSI and NIC

Controllers

There have been recent changes to the BIOS and or system board of your Dell system that

allow you to enable or disable the integrated small computer system interface SCSI and

network interface controller NIC controllers This document explains the System Setup

options that allow you to configure the integrated SCSI and NIC controllers in your system

For more information see Using the System Setup Program in your system s User s

Guide

The Integrated Devices screen in the System Setup program allows you to configure

integrated device controllers Use the following options to configure the SCSI and NIC

controllers

SCSI Controller Enables or disables the system s integrated SCSI controller For

the system to boot from a drive attached to the integrated SCSI controller the drive

must also be enabled Disabling the SCSI controller causes the BIOS to mask the

presence of devices attached to the controller

Network Interface Controller Enables or disables the system s two integrated

NICs Options allow you to enable the controller with or without PXE support or to

disable the controller PXE support allows the system to boot from the network

Power Supply Update for Dell

PowerEdge Systems

This document provides updated information for your Dell PowerEdge system power supplies To

comply with the new European standards for power consumption Dell Computer Corporation is

changing the power supply in your PowerEdge system to a model with Power Factor Correction PFC

features

The power supplies in the PowerEdge 300 PowerEdge 1400 and PowerEdge 2400 nonredundant

configuration only will use the new power supplies PowerEdge 2400 systems with redundant power

supply configurations are not changing and currently meet the new requirements Power supplies with

PFC features are more efficient and meet or exceed the current specification This change will not

impact operating systems or applications running on the system

The effective date of the regulation requiring the enhanced performance for systems delivered in the

European Union is January 1 2001 As a part of Dell s ongoing commitment to exceed standards and

improve the customer experience Dell will ship the new power supplies with PFC features world

wide The transition to the new power supplies will take place in late December in our factory in

Ireland and in January to March in our other factories worldwide Effective December 22 2000 the CE

markings will be removed from these systems shipped from our factories in the United States China

and Malaysia Systems not bearing the CE marking cannot be exported to the European Union coun

tries Table 1 shows the approximate dates the CE marking will be reapplied indicating that the

transition is complete
