components will expire

2 HP s licensing agreement to redistribute Microsoft s USB files has expired

3 Basic support for your HP product will be available through the use of prior

printer or legacy printer drivers

ALERT HP LaserJet series printers must be in compliance with Microsoft

Therefore HP has removed the Microsoft USB files in Windows 98 The Windows 98

driver is still on the in box CD and will work with Windows 98 if a HP printer driver has

previously been installed successfully on the Windows 98 computer system via USB

The driver on the inbox CD can be installed now because the Microsoft files needed

should already be on the computer system Please note The solution for printing using

Windows 98 will work as long as the customer has previously installed an HP printer via

Windows ME has MS USB installation files in the operating system so there is no

problem installing any of our low end printers via USB on Win ME

1 Can I print to my new LJ printer in Windows 98 ME without a printer specific

driver

Answer Yes as long as it has PCL5 capability you will always be able to print using

HP Legacy drivers with PCL5 capability although you may not have complete

functionality of your printer s new features HP Legacy drivers are previous product

drivers found both within the operating system and on a previous printer driver CD s

2 If I call the HP call center will they be able to provide a Windows 98 driver

Answer No There will be no further distribution of Windows 98 drivers

3 What if I can t find a legacy driver

Answer The only other solution is to upgrade your operating system

4 If my pc crashes and I have to reinstall Windows 98 what support can I expect

Answer HP WW support will direct you to either install a legacy driver or upgrade

your operating system

5 If I can t find a legacy driver will HP buy back my printer

The Driver Disk Builder system is compatible with, but not limited to all the following 32 & 64 Bit operating systems

This driver detection system will find all the drivers for any windows based computer and all connected hardware.

1. At this stage a few dialog boxes will be displayed asking a series of questions, set out below, this is to ascertain many aspects of the driver install system.
2. If the driver detector program is being used on the computer that the drivers are required for then the procedure is very straight forward.
   
3. Is the computer connected to the internet?
   
4. At this point the driver detector systems will double check that there is a connection to the driver detector servers.
   
5. After pressing next, driver detector will scan your system (the results of which you can choose to view) and submit the results to the driver detector servers. These scan results consist of a complete list of all the hardware connected to your computer. Any and every device connected to the computer would be detected with the correct driver matched to work with any windows operating system!
   
6. Using the next dialog box the device scan results can be viewed and or saved for later use.
   
7. Press 'Start' to move the process on to the next step where the selection of Manufacturer and operating system is required.
8. ** Please note ALWAYS select 'OEM' even if your machines manufacturer is listed on the dropdown. This part of the program can be re run as many times as required. Only select your manufacturer if the default of 'OEM' does not find all of the drivers or there are some areas on the results page highlighted in red.

10. To create a driver disk press 'NEXT' then log into an existing account or create a new one. If the driver detector system did not produce a 100% complete driver match for all devices the resulting disk would be half price.
    
11. Once the account has been verified or the disk paid for the drivers will start downloading.
    
12. Driver detector has built in CD and DVD writing software so to burn to a CD or DVD pres the 'BURN DISK' button.
13. If you wish to browse the disk or execute and install all the drivers without burning a disk select the 'BROWSE DISK' button and then double click the 'SPLASH' or splash.exe icon shown here by the green arrow.
